The 2011 Summer macro catch up part 2

Continuing the summer's macro catch up, I had a couple of sessions with some local Brown Argus (Aricia agestis) butterflies in late summer. I recorded larger numbers of these on a local reserve than in previous years and spent a little time in obtaining more images of this beautiful little butterfly.

One of my favourite local spots is Chambers Wood. Its a popular spot where you can see a variety of insects and other wildlife and the camera can be kept pretty busy with a number of different subjects. There has been some showy Common Lizards (Zootoca vivipara) there this year, and a number of images of these have been shown in earlier posts on this site. On one of my last visits there this year, I couldnt resist adding to the catalogue of lizard images with a close up on some nice lichen.

The same visit also produced my first ever image of Speckled Wood (Pararge aegeria) butterfly (top image below) and an opportunity to get an image of a Six-spotted Burnet (Zygaena filipendulae) moth (bottom image).

  3. I don't usually go for butterfly images Matt, but the Speckled Wood is a beautifully composed shot. Great Lizard with lichen adding to the shot.

  4. Hi Matt,
I indeed love them all, but my favorite is the common lizard also, because of the composition and the beautiful sharpness of the image!
