An evening with Marbled Whites

I have had a couple of key macro targets this summer. I posted recently some images of one of those target species; the White Admiral. One of my other targets was another beautiful butterfly; the Marbled White (Melanargia galathea). Although there are a couple of sites in Lincolnshire for these stunning insects, I have managed to fail to secure any images in previous years. Therefore, one bright evening in mid June, I decided to head to one of the sites close to work to see what I could find. After a fruitless search for almost an hour, I came across an area which held up to 15 individuals and after a bit of patience I managed to capture some pleasing images whilst listening to a Quail calling almost continuously in the warm evening sunshine. What a great way to end a tough day at the office!

  8. Hello friends,

The marbled white is a butterfly in the family Nymphalidae. This butterfly is one of the browns, of the subfamily Satyrinae. They are a common sight in unimproved grasslands across southern Britain, particularly on the south downs. Thanks for sharing it....
